WC CHALLENGE: #16/25

16/25:

To celebrate the start of the knockout phase, here's an absolute classic!

This Umbro away kit was worn between March to November 1996, and appeared in the UEFA Euro 96 Championship held in England, and is in my top 5 favourite England kits. The Football Association insisted that it was indigo blue … but it looks grey to me! At the time it proved highly unpopular with England fans, but has since become a classic due to it’s unique colour and design. England only wore this kit in three official matches, one of which was at the Euro's.

I’m wearing #6 as worn by Gareth Southgate, who's probably best remembered for missing his penalty against Germany in the semi-finals ... that's up until recently, of course. Germany went on to win the Euros, beating the Czech Republic 2-1. Southgate made a total of 57 appearances for England, and became the England manager in 2016. So far he has proven to be a success with both the players and the nation. Hopefully he can manage getting our team through to the quarter-finals ... and possibly further!

Today's schedule - Round of 16:
France v Argentina
Uruguay v Portugal

And so the knockout phase begins today with 2 massive games, and I'd have to say that my money is on France and Portugal to progress. But with some of the results in the finals so far, anyone of these teams could make it through to the quarter-finals.
